Thoughts About Hurricane Sandy

I am so, so sad about what happened and what people are dealing with in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

I have been putting this post off because there are SO MANY THINGS I could write about. This is my 4th draft to write something coherent that does not stray off in too many directions. I’m find it extremely difficult to write about this so bare with me please.

From a personal standpoint, I grew up in New York and New Jersey and there are many places that I love that no longer exist.

Letting go of those places is upsetting to me… I can’t imagine how people that lost entire neighborhoods are feeling.

But just as I mentioned last week, letting go of belongings makes room for the new to come in.

If we can find an upside to this mess, the flipside of destruction is always transformation and rebirth.

To be clear… I would not wish this storm or the destruction that it caused on anyone, and wish that there had been zero loss of life and zero damage.

But perhaps we can see the water that came to land as cleansing and clarifying.

Maybe this is just mother earth’s way of starting to wash herself off. Maybe she is asking us to change our toxic ways, and her asking is becoming much more assertive than her polite demeanor during the first hundred years the human race abused her. Now she’s saying, “Hey… If you push me and disrespect me, I’ll push you back.”

I hope we wake up and start to heal mother earth. The recent cover of Bloomberg Magazine is a step in the right direction.

How to Help… Physical Necessities

Help out Hurricane Sandy victims by texting “REDCROSS” to “90999.” This will give a $10 donation (which will show on your next cellphone bill).

You can call 1-800-HELP-NOW or go to www.redcross.org to give more.

How to Help… Energetic Necessities

Natural disasters take a huge emotional toll on those that are effected by them. Prayers for comfort, healing and fast and safe recovery will help. Prayers that mother earth gets what she needs to heal herself and make the earth safe and inhabitable to humans for many generations to come will also help. Prayers that world leaders make choices that will provide a safe and healthy planet for our children’s children’s children’s children.

~ Peace ~
